"So, what sort of music do you guys play?"

Every band gets asked this question. And of course it can be very important to have an answer. Venues need to know who you'd be best to play with etc. But as like many bands, its not always a straight forward thing to answer.

Right at the start of Liddington Hill we knew what we liked and how we wanted to sound. But as time went on different members came and went our sound changed into something we all really love. When we started we were sure we were a Celtic Punk band, after all we had the fiddle and we did mainly traditional songs with a punky sound. We loved doing shanties (still do) . But as time went on and we started to truly settle into what we wanted to do we got darker, heavier. We still did traditional song of course and one of our most popular songs live is Whip Jamboree. But as we wrote more the fiddle wasn't always the primary instrument, Liam and Ethan's guitar got darker ... grungier.

By the time we came to do "Long Lankin", we felt we really found our sound. But was this strictly Celtic Punk anymore?

From there we got deeper into the sound we love. With our next song "Coffee with Sophie" and "With You" we were still punk but definitely grungier.

Here's "With you" ...

We love the noise. After that our last EP "Edge of Insanity" kept this Celtic Grunge sound going especially with songs like "Caped in black" .

We still do trad folk songs, and we write about historical things, we still have the fiddle as a main instument, but we are deliciously heavier and more grunge than right back at the start.

So when people now say "What do you play? We guess we have to say "Celtic Grunge"

We are working on a new EP to be recorded in the new year, full of original songs about stories of the plight of people. For updates subscibe on our contact page. It's gonna be great!
