Behind the Scenes of Our New EP Radium

It's been two and a half months since the release of our EP "Radium". So it's definitely time we share the fun we had recording it.

We had been working on the songs for about a year or so, and we were really happy about how it was sounding. We wanted to explore some great stories in history and tell them in our celtic grungy style.

So after working out what we wanted to include in the EP we decided on: Peterloo, Pretty Boy, Tarrare, Luscious Radium and Ever Shot a Gun Before.

Peterloo is about the Peterloo massacre in Manchester 1819. Staying with a historical theme, Tarrare was a French showman living in the late 1700, renowned for his gluttonous appetite. The radium girls from the early 1900s are the subject of the title track Luscious Radium. Pretty Boy is a reworking of Tamzin's song on our 2017 EP, Cheerfully Dejected. The final track, Ever shot a gun before is a song taken from band members personal experiences.

Recording

We went to Nick Moorbath from Evolution Studios. As usual Nick did a great job. It's always a pleasure working with Nick and he really knows what to add to bring the best out of the songs.

We then went to Tim Turan of Turan Audio for the mastering. It was the first time we worked with Tim, he did an amazing job. Tim is a great bloke.

EP Artwork

Finally we needed artwork. Rob Warren of Paper Plane Consulting did the artwork for our Cow EP in 2021, and we loved that. So he was the natural choice for Radium. After a few ideas we decided on the final artwork. Loved it!

Rob did an amazing job on both covers

After everything was completed we released Radium on 17 April 2026.

The Release

On the 19th April we had played at the Little Bully, The Bullingdon Oxford supported by Lucky Number Seven and King Attitude. So we played all the songs from Radium for the first time since the release. It was a great gig. King Attitude and Lucky Number Seven were amazing.

Reviews

Devizine magazine from Wiltshire and Nightshift magazine from Oxford gave the EP great reviews.

What's Next?

Alannah our bassists is due to have her first baby in July, so we'll be taking it easy until the end of the year. But we're really looking forward to gigging and sharing our new songs soon. We have new songs were working on for 2027/2028. So please look out for those.

If you haven't heard Radium, it's available on all the usual streaming sites, and available for download on our Bandcamp page. Head to our home page to hear it now! 🙂
